What a Non-Contact Voltage Tester Can Tell You

A non-contact voltage tester can quickly indicate that alternating-current voltage may be present near a wire, cord, outlet, or fixture without exposing a conductor. That makes it useful for preliminary checks and for locating an energized cable among several similar ones.

It should not be treated as proof that a circuit is safe to touch. These testers can respond to nearby energized conductors and can also miss voltage under some conditions. Proper electrical work still requires an appropriate meter and safe verification procedure.

What a Ratcheting Screwdriver Actually Improves

A ratcheting screwdriver does not make a screw easier to turn; it reduces how often you have to reposition your hand. The handle can move back and forth while the bit continues driving in only one direction, which is particularly helpful in tight spaces or when you have many fasteners to remove.

For occasional household work, a solid ratchet mechanism and a sensible set of common bits matter more than having dozens of exotic attachments.

What an Ethernet Cable Tester Tells You

A basic Ethernet cable tester checks whether the conductors in a network cable reach the corresponding pins at the other end. That makes it useful after crimping a connector or when a cable seems dead and you want to find an open, short, reversal, or obvious wiring mistake.

A simple continuity-style tester does not prove that a cable can sustain a particular network speed under load. It answers the more basic question first: is the cable wired correctly from end to end?

When a Small Wet/Dry Vacuum Is Worth Having

A small wet/dry vacuum fills the gap between a household vacuum and a full-size shop machine. It can pick up sawdust, gravel, spilled water, debris from a car, or the mess left after a minor plumbing repair without asking your regular vacuum to handle material it was never designed for.

The compact versions are especially useful when storage matters. You give up some capacity, but for occasional cleanup the smaller size often means the tool actually gets used.
