Why Plastic Headlights Turn Hazy

Polycarbonate headlamp lenses rely on protective coatings against ultraviolet light. As those coatings weather, the exposed plastic can oxidize and scatter light.

Why Extension-Cord Gauge Matters

A thicker extension cord has lower electrical resistance, which matters more as the cord gets longer or the load gets heavier. The gauge number works backward: 12 AWG is heavier than 14 AWG, and 14 AWG is heavier than 16 AWG.

For lamps and small loads, a light cord may be perfectly adequate. For heaters, large tools, or long runs, heavier cable reduces voltage drop and unnecessary heating.

Why Coolant Color Is a Poor Compatibility Guide

Different coolant chemistries can share similar colors, and manufacturers are not bound to one universal color code.

Why Washers Do More Than Fill Space

A washer can spread load over a wider surface, protect softer material, provide a bearing surface, or serve specialized locking and sealing functions.
